Study Programme and Vocational Skills Teacher
Background & Experience:
I have been in education for 28 years. The majority of this time was in Primary Education, as a class teacher, senior leader, ECT Mentor with responsibility for PE, maths, PSHE and student voice.
More recently I have worked with Child Care Apprentices to ensure they achieve their Functional Skills English and Maths to be awarded their full qualifications.
I have also worked as a casual tutor and supply teacher.
Key Expertise:
Having taught in Primary Education, teaching the full range of the National Curriculum subjects, I can teach a range of topics but English and maths is where I have specialised in recent years.
I specialised in PE and science within my teaching degree.
Teaching Philosophy:
I aim to create a positive, engaging and inclusive environment in my classroom. where all of my learners feel comfortable to learn and the small successes are celebrated.
It is most successful when learning is fun, hands-on, allowing learners to apply knowledge to real world contexts.
I also value open discussion and collaboration to share ideas, ask questions and learn from one another.
Additional information:
Outside of teaching, I have a strong passion for running and supporting others to achieve their goals. I am a qualified run leader for my local athletics club and coach every week. I also enjoy taking part in Parkrun on a Saturday morning.
I find this closely relates to my work in adult learning, as both involve helping people to develop their skills and confidence.
