IT tips and help
Making IT work in Adult Learning
We aim for a 'blended' learning environment that is inspiring and accessible. We think the best learning environments now include IT elements with time-honoured teaching methods. We try to make working online easy, and encourage you to have a go.
If you are worried something will go wrong, we know a helping hand can be useful. Things can go wrong for everyone from time to time. Don't worry - it's normal! Our team will support you as much as we can.
We encourage you to use your tablet or phone for your course. You can do lots, from filling in a simple form - to completing and sending work back to your tutor for marking. Tips for mobile devices
Book on the Adult Learning website
When you have set up your account on the Adult Learning website, you can book onto one or more courses simply by logging in. Please make a note of your login password.
When you login you can view details of courses you have booked.
Find More Courses to enjoy.
Expect emails to confirm you booking and a reminder a day or two before your course begins. Reminders will have details how to join your course. Emails also have the link to your Google Classroom to give you access to your course resources, both during and between course sessions.
To join the Google Classroom for your course, you will need a Gmail address and password.
If you can't book online, you can ring 0300 303 1058 during office hours
IT in face to face courses
Our face to face courses are usually supported by IT. For instance, it's now easier and more sustainable to complete required 'paperwork' online from the mobile phone in your pocket than using a paper form.
We use Google Classroom to give your access to your course materials both in class and at home. It's easy to send work and feedback to your tutor through Google Classroom.
You need a Gmail address and password to join your Google Classroom. Its all free! If you don't have a Gmail address, it's easy to create one the first time you join a Classroom. Just remember your password!
We support as much as we can to make IT in a live session straightforward for you.
How to take part in an online course
Online courses use Google Meet for the live video sessions and Google Classroom for resources and your work. Everything takes place online and it's easy to send in work and communicate with your tutor.
You do Not need a printer or any other programmes you need to pay for.
Adult Learning sends you email with a link to your Google Classroom when we confirm your booking and again when we send a course reminder.
You need a Gmail address and password to access Google Classroom. If you don't yet have one, it's easy to create the first time you join a Classroom. Just remember your password!
On your own mobile or tablet, you need these apps: Google Classroom, Google Docs, Google Slides and Google Sheets.
A link to Meet video calls will be at the top of the list as soon as you open your Classroom.
