Dance Tutor
Background and Experience:
My parents, Ron and Jean, shared a passion for dance and, in post-war Northampton during the 1950s, established a dance school and entertainment business called Gayeway, located at the top of Abington Street. I was named after the dance club itself, reflecting how deeply dance has always been part of my life.
From an early age, I was immersed in dance, taking part in competitions and performances before going on to teach full-time for almost 30 years across pre-school, primary and secondary education. Alongside my work in schools, I have taught adults since 1989 through further education and community learning programmes. Although I chose to slow down and pursue a different career in 2015, dance has remained a central part of my life, and I continue to teach through adult learning courses.

Ballroom and Latin

Teaching Philosophy:
Dance has given me so much throughout my life, and I am passionate about helping others discover its joy and benefits. I believe social dancing creates opportunities for friendship, memorable experiences and new adventures. It builds confidence, supports both physical and mental wellbeing, and keeps the body and mind active through learning new skills.
My approach is guided by a simple philosophy: Time to learn. Patience to improve. Love for what you do. These values underpin everything I do, encouraging learners to progress at their own pace while enjoying the journey.
My Salsa classes are lively, fun and filled with laughter as we explore intricate footwork and “arm-ography”, making the learning process enjoyable and rewarding. With the growing popularity of country music events and line dancing, courses often fill quickly, so early booking is recommended.
Outside of dance, I recently took on a very different challenge by rescuing a herd of neglected alpacas. With the support of veterinary professionals, they are now healthy, happy and sociable. This experience has reinforced lessons in patience, perseverance and trust—qualities that also influence my teaching. Above all, I have a lifelong love of dance, and it is a pleasure to share that passion with others.
