Smartphone Photography Tutor
Background & Experience:
I'm an artist and photographer with 40 years of industry experience. I started out shooting and processing black and white for the local press in 1986, and went on to work for a number of magazines as photographer and picture editor, including a five year stint in Formula One.
I hold an undergraduate BA in Mixed Media Art and a Masters in Hypermedia - and have spent the last ten years exploring environmentally themed art from a contemporary perspective, hosting Arts Council funded exhibitions and workshops at galleries across the Midlands, including the Not Just Us project, and Curious Adventures in Colour and Light.
Key Expertise:
My current interest is the smartphone, and all the capabilities it offers as a app-based creative tool. I've been facilitating workshops to a broad range of learners on this theme for the last two years - and recently attained the TQUK Level 3 Award in Education and Training as a part of my ongoing CPD, along with some fantastic 1-2-1 mentoring from the Adult Learning team.
Teaching Philosophy:
I aim to nurture curiosity and experimentation in the classroom, providing a flexible framework for learners to gain skills and confidence in a relaxed environment that foregrounds the psychological and physiological benefits of being creative in class-based and location-based studies.
Additional information:
I love to study, and have spent the last three years researching colour and vision, which I'm hoping to expand upon with research into spatial sound over the next 18 months ( which makes for some very early mornings out recording the dawn chorus at various locations ) ... I also enjoy reading books that explore the health and wellbeing benefits of being out and active in the nature-space from an accessible perspective.
