Background & Experience:
I am a Functional Skills Maths Teacher at NALS with over 17 years’ experience in education. Since becoming part of the service last year, I have enjoyed delivering a range of both skills-focused and community-based courses. Prior to joining Adult Learning, I have worked in primary education as a teacher, English subject leader and mentor for new teachers entering the profession. I have also worked in fast-paced customer service roles. My approach to teaching and learning has been influenced and guided by these.
Key Expertise:
* Functional Skills Maths
* Family Learning
* Learner Support - Study Programme
I love helping people build practical skills and confidence for everyday life, whether that's progressing at work, pursuing a long-standing goal or supporting their children with schoolwork.
Teaching Philosophy:
I am passionate about teaching. I put learners at the centre of everything I do, shaping each session around what will genuinely help them move forward. Above all, I believe strong, positive relationships are at the heart of good teaching. I take the time to get to know every learner, understand where they're starting from, and create an inclusive, non-judgmental space where mistakes are just part of learning, not something to worry about. I strive to instil self-belief and confidence into every learner so that they feel able to achieve success.
Additional information:
When I’m not at work, I love being near the water to relax and recharge. I also enjoy yoga and spending time with family and friends.
