Functional Skills English

Background & Experience: 

I am a Vocational Curriculum Coordinator and Mentoring Coordinator at NALS, with over 10 years’ experience in education. Before moving into adult learning, I have worked in primary, secondary and further education as both a Head of Modern Foreign Languages and a Head of Year. These roles have shaped my approach to supporting learners at all stages of their journey.

I now lead on curriculum design and delivery for employment-focused pathways such as Teaching, Childcare and Health and Social care courses. I hold a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages, a degree in Modern Languages, and have completed my Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification. 

Key Expertise: 

I teach Functional Skills English, languages, Advanced professional writing and Teaching qualifications with a strong interest in high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment. I am passionate about helping learners develop clear communication skills and confidence in both everyday and professional contexts.

Alongside this, I support mentoring across the service, working with both staff and learners to build confidence, develop skills, and promote positive learning experiences and outcomes. 

Teaching Philosophy:

I believe adult learning should be inclusive, practical, and empowering. I create a supportive environment where learners feel respected, confident, and able to progress at their own pace. My approach focuses on real-life application, helping learners understand how English and vocational skills support their personal, professional, and everyday goals.

I am particularly committed to building confidence and motivation, ensuring that every learner feels capable of success and supported throughout their learning journey. 

Additional information:

I enjoy supporting adults who are returning to education and helping them build confidence in their abilities. I speak French and Spanish, and I have a strong interest in communication, which I bring into my teaching to make learning practical and engaging.

Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, spending time with my family, and walking my dog.
