Maths & English
Background & Experience:
I am an experienced teacher and tutor with a background in secondary education, languages and course and assessment creation. I have worked in education for several years including as a Second in Department for Modern Foreign Languages where I led curriculum development, and assessment. I have also worked with ESOL learners in both the UK and Spain with the British Council, supporting learners from a range of cultural backgrounds to develop their communication skills and confidence.
I now work for adult learning, supporting learning with Functional Skills English and maths and also vocational learning. I have experience helping learners build confidence so they can progress towards their personal, educational and career goals. I hold a Master's degree in Education, a PGCE and a CertTESOL qualification, which have supported my work across secondary, adult and vocational education.
Key Expertise:
Building learner confidence
Languages, ESOL and communication
Building positive relationships with learners
Developing valid and reliable assessments
Teaching Philosophy:
I believe learners thrive when they feel supported, respected and understood. My teaching style is friendly, encouraging and structured, with a focus on breaking learning down into clear, manageable steps.
I aim to create a classroom where learners feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and celebrating progress. I enjoy helping learners recognise what they can already do, while supporting them to develop the skills and confidence they need to achieve their goals.
Additional information:
Outside of work I enjoy traveling, baking and exploring different cultures and languages. Having learnt additional languages myself, I understand the challenges of stepping outside of your comfort zone and the confidence that can bring. This helps me to create a supportive and encouraging environment for my learners.
