ESOL
Background & Experience:
I have spent more than six years teaching ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) to students at all levels. Over the last three years, I have worked for Adult Learning, where I taught ESOL and other community-based courses, including family learning, employability and maths. Before that, I spent three years at Northampton College, planning and delivering ESOL lessons to both adults and learners aged 16 and over.
I also have experience working with primary school children, especially those learning English as an additional language and as a community interpreter, supporting people with no English who needed to access public services.
These experiences help me connect with people from many different backgrounds. Watching my people succeed is the most rewarding part of my job, as it reminds me of the positive impact education can have on individuals and their communities.
Key Expertise:
I specialise in teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) to learners of all levels. Throughout my career, I have focused on supporting learners in developing essential language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing, plus a strong understanding of practical grammar. I have helped many students pass their ESOL exams and advance in their education or careers.
Teaching Philosophy:
Teaching is more than just a job for me. It feels like a calling and influences how I live each day. As part of the community and a speaker of other languages, I feel a strong purpose to give back and support others. Since I know what it’s like to learn English, I always try to bring empathy to my classes.
What I love most is seeing my students succeed. I focus on letting learners take the lead in their learning and on making the classroom a place where they can discover English naturally. My aim goes beyond teaching grammar and vocabulary. I want to help my learners feel confident so they can change their lives, advance their careers and support their families. I also enjoy building a small community in our classes, where students make real friendships and help each other both in and out of class.
Additional information:
I connect with my students on a personal level because I have been through similar experiences. I was born in Romania and moved to the UK 20 years ago. I understand what it is like to learn English as a second language and adjust to a new culture. My own journey helps me relate to my learners and see things from their point of view. Now, I am proud to be part of the Northampton community, and I enjoy helping other adults feel at home here too.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy joining local community events, meeting new people, and learning about different cultures. To relax, I like to read, listen to podcasts, and cook. I also enjoy travelling, especially going for hikes in nature. I bring this energy, curiosity and warmth into my classroom, and I am excited to be part of my learners' language journey.
