Tutor
Background & Experience:
I spent most of my career working in technology project delivery roles before making the change to teaching wellbeing and mindfulness. From my corporate life I developed my group facilitation skills and ability to take complex concepts and convey them so that they can be easily understood.
I have a Master's in teaching Mindfulness Based Cognitive therapy (MBCT) from the University of Oxford which I studied as a mature student after many years of learning and practicing mindfulness for myself.
Mindfulness is often misunderstood but I like to think of it as the skill to recognise how we are feeling and direct our attention towards what is helpful.
Mindfulness has helped me personally a great deal and there are lots of ways to practice - I focus on adaptation and accessibility in relation to mindfulness as there are lots of ways to practice.
I also have lived experience and expertise in Neurodiversity and neurodivergence, particularly Autism and ADHD. I mainly focus on supporting adults to understand their neurodivergent traits so that helpful supports can be identified, simply put - you can't accommodate what you don't understand.
Key Expertise:
I specialise in teaching:
Evidence based mindfulness - MBCT
Mental health and wellbeing
Neurodiversity and neurodivergence
Supporting parent carers of SEND children
Teaching Philosophy:
My intention for my teaching style is to be friendly and approachable. I aim to make learners feel welcomed so people feel comfortable to ask questions and join in which helps learning.
I like to offer interactive sessions and aim to include a variety of activities that are interesting and engaging.
I aim to motivate students by teaching skills that are applicable and useful in daily life so that people feel like they have a new skill or approach to try that is relevant and relatable to their own life.
I support learners by being flexible about my teaching approach and can usually find an alternative way to teach something if something isn't going to be suitable.
