Quality, Compliance and Learning Support Manager 

Background & Experience: 

I am the Quality, Compliance and Learning Support Manager for Northants Adult Learning, with over 20 years’ experience working within adult and community learning. I am passionate about ensuring that learners receive a high-quality, inclusive and supportive learning experience and have the opportunity to achieve their goals.

My current role includes leading on quality improvement across the service, professional development and training, self-assessment and I am the Designated Safeguarding Lead. I also oversee Learning Support, Careers Information, Advice and Guidance (CIAG), and the Data, Compliance and Exams teams.

I began my career in community development, working directly with local communities and voluntary organisations to encourage people to engage with learning. My career has since included roles as an Adult Learning Tutor, Curriculum Coordinator, Curriculum Manager and Performance and Quality Manager before progressing to my current role.

Key Expertise: 

I hold a BA (Hons) Degree in Voluntary Sector Studies and Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status and have recently completed Level 7 Post Graduate Diploma in Senior Leadership with the University of Bedfordshire.

Teaching and Learning Philosophy:

I believe that adult learning has the power to make a real difference to people’s lives. Every learner brings their own experiences, strengths and challenges to learning, and I am passionate about creating an inclusive environment where everyone has the opportunity to participate, develop their confidence and achieve their potential.

I love learning myself and believe that being a learner has helped to shape the way I approach my work. My own learning experiences have given me a greater understanding of the commitment involved in studying alongside work and everyday life, as well as the importance of feeling supported and encouraged throughout the learning journey.

One of the parts of my role that I particularly enjoy is visiting our classes and meeting our learners. It is always rewarding to see learning taking place, hear directly from learners about their experiences and celebrate the progress they are making. Keeping that connection with learners helps ensure that their experiences remain at the heart of the decisions we make.

Additional Information: 

I have enjoyed volunteering in a variety of roles alongside my career, including supporting children, being a school governor and being involved with community organisations. I believe volunteering is extremely valuable, not only because of the positive impact volunteers can have within their communities, but also because of the opportunities it can provide to develop skills, build confidence, meet people and gain new experiences.

Outside of work I enjoy making memories with family and friends, photography (very amateur so I may need to take a course on that one day to do it properly), reading and being creative.
